Kenyan Geoffrey NDungu today won the 32nd National Lottery Dublin Marathon and in the process, set a new record time for completing it.

NDungu walked away (we’d wager he’s a bit too knackered to run) with a prize of €15,000, having set a new course record time of two hours, eight minutes and 32 seconds.

In contrast, the fastest Irishman in today’s marathon was Sean Connelly of Tallaght, who past the finish line at 2 hours, 18 minutes and 51 seconds.

The fastest Irishwoman in today’s race was Linda Byrne, who finished in a time of 2 hours, 36 minutes and 20 seconds. Linda is set to compete for Ireland in next summer’s London marathon for the 2012 Olympics.

In addition to winner NDungu’s record-setting finish time, the marathon enjoyed historic figures of over 14,000 participants, while the race was televised on RTE for the first time in 20 years.
