It’s official.

Martin O’Neill has officially signed a new contract that will see him and his current management team remain in charge of the Irish football team until 2020.

Last week, O’Neill revealed that he had agreed terms on a new contract following speculation linking him with the manager’s job at Stoke, a job O’Neill had been heavily linked with despite making a verbal agreement on a two-year extension with FAI Chief Executive John Delaney last October.

On Tuesday night, in another in-house FAI video posted on Twitter, O’Neill confirmed that he had officially signed a new deal that will see him remain in charge until Euro 2020, which will be held in 12 different cities, including Dublin.

“I spoke to John very recently and he said on behalf of the board they would like to extend my contract for another couple of years, obviously with the Euros coming up, and I’ve agreed to do so,” O’Neill said

“(I’m) delighted, I’ve enjoyed it immensely, international football was something that I didn’t know whether you would get used to or not but obviously qualification for the Euros made it all worthwhile.

“The future, now with some younger players coming through taking over from the old guard, who will retire naturally, I think, through old age as much as anything else, I think that it’s exciting times for us.”
