PIC: Austrian newspaper clearly doesn’t rate James McClean if these player ratings are anything to go by

JOE

What bloody game were they watching?

Aside from being direct, tough and committed whenever he pulls on the green jersey, James McClean has also added goals to his game because the West Brom winger is a man that’s bang in form for Ireland. The Derry man was absolutely electric on Saturday evening as he added to his brace in Moldova by netting the crucial winner at the Ernst Happel Stadium.

McClean was just one of the many heroes in green over the weekend as the likes of Coleman, Clark and Meyler delivered very impressive performances.

In terms of qualifying, the win against Austria was absolutely massive because it has moved Ireland clear at the top of Group D. We’re also hoping that it marks a turning point in our fortunes on the road because prior to this win, Ireland have historically struggled to pick up away wins against the so-called ‘bigger’ countries during qualification campaigns.  In fact, the last away triumph in a qualifier of this size came against Scotland back in 1987.

To a man, every single Irish player delivered a big performance against a country that we haven’t beaten in 53 years.

With this in mind, how Austrian newspaper Osterreich gave the Irish players such poor ratings is beyond us?

You can just taste their bitterness.
