Leona Maguire comes up big again as Europe move ahead at the Solheim Cup

Their comeback earned Europe another point against the United States, giving them a 7-5 advantage over the Americans.

The contest remained extremely close at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.

Both teams had shared Friday's two sessions, with Maja Stark and Linn Grant giving Europe an early boost, defeating Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda 3&2.

Mimi Rhodes and Natasia Nadaud then added another European victory, overcoming Andrea Lee and Auston Kim 4&3.

However, the biggest win of the morning belonged to the United States.

Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin defeated Charley Hull and Lottie Woad 6&5, with the result leaving Jennifer Kupcho and Rose Zhang needing victory.

The Americans looked well placed heading towards the 16th and a much needed win that would have brought the overall score level at 6-6.

They were 1UP and appeared ready to complete the comeback before Maguire and Henseleit produced their strongest spell.

Their morning had previously been far from straightforward with Maguire overhitting a chip at the sixth hole, shortly followed by a missed par attempt by Henseleit.

Those mistakes allowed the Americans to move two holes ahead.

Another setback came at the ninth.

Maguire missed a three-foot putt, quietening the previously loud European support.

At the 10th, Maguire holed a 15-foot putt to put pressure on Zhang, who then missed from roughly half that distance.

Maguire continued to make an impact on the following holes, striking an excellent tee shot at the 11th, and a superb bunker shot at the 12th.

The victory further strengthened Maguire's impressive Solheim Cup record. She now has 10 wins, three defeats and one half from her appearances.

It adds another positive result for Irish sport overseas.

Zoe Hyde and Margaret Cremen have also recently secured a world title, with Katie Taylor also enjoying a major night at Croke Park.
