Only in Ireland
Darts terminology is absolutely wonderful but it can also be hard to explain some of the words to a newbie that’s looking to throw on their best Hawaiian shirt, drink some beer and sing Chase the Sun – Planet Funk (that’s the name of the song) at a live event.
For example, a ‘checkout’ is when a player hits the exact score that’s left to win the leg, a ‘last dart Dave’ refers to a player that hits their mark on their last dart meaning that the other 2 throws really don’t count while a ‘wan**rs fifty’ is when someone scores scoring 50 by hitting a single 20, single 18 and single 12 with three darts.
We genuinely didn’t make that last one up.
‘Turkey’ is also in the darts vernacular but we’re certain that it doesn’t refer to a certain individual that represented Ireland in the Eurovision, had singles in the charts and tormented Gay Byrne on the Late Late Toy Show.
The Premier League Darts was taking place in the 3Arena last night and a familiar face was in the crowd.
