PIC: Everton have paid a classy tribute to the Hillsborough victims on their matchday programme

Alan Loughnane

Everton put their rivalry with Liverpool aside today with this gesture…

Liverpool and Everton have always been rivals but today, Everton showed that at the end of it all, football is only a game.

The official matchday programme for the Everton versus Bournemouth game today features a tribute to the 96 Liverpool fans who sadly lost their lives at Hillsborough in 1989.

It reads as follows: “Everton Football Club salutes the Hillsborough families and their total vindication as Fighters for Justice. Theirs is the greatest victory in the history of football. RIP, the 96.”

The tribute ends with a quote from the Everton’s chairman Bill Kenwright at Anfield in 2013.

“They took on the wrong city – and they took on the wrong Mums.”

Fair play to them…

If you wish to purchase a digital version of the programme, you can do so here.
