Pic: Spot the lad in the Mayo jersey (and the giant green afro wig) in the middle of J-Lo’s World Cup music video

If the Mayo jersey isn’t enough to make him stand out, then the giant green afro wig makes absolutely sure of it.

If the Mayo jersey isn’t enough to make him stand out, then the giant green afro wig makes absolutely sure of it.

The sight of someone in a Mayo jersey in an exotic location or at an important worldwide event is far from uncommon these days, but, in the last couple of years at least, you normally don’t spot them until July or August and more often than not, they’re standing beside a makeshift ‘Mayo for Sam’ banner ahead of another All-Ireland Final appearance for the men from the west.

It would appear as if the green and red bandwagon is cranking up a little earlier than usual this year, however, and the most recent high-profile spotting of a Mayo jersey might just be the best yet.

Kiltimagh man Jonathan Costello alerted us to this beauty featuring a friend of his, Castlebar native Dean Doherty, who not only managed to make an appearance in the official music video for Jennifer Lopez’s World Cup song, ‘We Are One’ when it was filmed in Miami recently, but secured a spot front and centre only a few yards behind one of the most famous rear ends in showbiz.

As well as the Mayo jersey, Dean was also wearing a massive lime-green afro wig, an outfit that absolutely ensured he stood out from the rest of the crowd, as did the fact that he seemed to be focussing on staring dead-eyed into the camera in the picture above while the rest of the cast were dancing their hearts out.

The video has yet to be officially released but if you look very closely you can spot Dean in the background of a teaser clip below and if this isn’t the first sign that Mayo are finally destined to reach the promised land in 2014 then we don’t know what is.
