Is Sean Cavanagh trying to promote the National League here or offering up a prize for a puppy he’s just lost in the woods?
GAA players aren’t always enthusiastic about photocalls at the best of times, never mind in cold and wet conditions at the end of January, when the prospect of playing in balmy temperatures in Croke Park in high summer seems very far away indeed.
We have rarely seen a prominent GAA star show less enthusiasm for a photoshoot as Tyrone’s Sean Cavanagh when promoting the Allianz National Football League in Malone House in Belfast today; the grimness of Sean’s face eclipsed only by the desolate scene in the background.
Maybe Joe Brolly was in the middle of another rant about cynical fouling and Cavanagh’s right to consider himself as a man out of shot, we’re not sure, but with that sort of a game face on him, we wouldn’t like to be any of the Derry players encountering him in the Division One opener in Celtic Park this weekend.
