Reports: Manchester United will sign Bastian Schweinsteiger ‘imminently’

Is this the truth or does it need more salt?

The truth or does it need more salt?

I’m slightly wary about any impending deals at Old Trafford because Van Gaal’s men seem like they’ve been linked with every player under the sun during this transfer window but Bild are reporting that United are about to land Bayern Munich’s World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Reports in Germany on Friday night claimed that Schweinsteiger has agreed to move to Old Trafford with German tabloid Bild announcing the ‘Transfer of the Summer’.

The fee is believed to be around €20m and Schweinsteiger will sign a three-year deal worth €10m per annum.

I’m still slightly sceptical about the whole thing, the Gundogan ‘agreement’ a few weeks ago comes to mind, but Van Gaal did have a seismic impact on the World Cup winners career so any move isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

If the story is true then it’s a hell of a coup for Man Utd because they desperately need someone to fill that midfield berth.

Sky Sports seem happy to run with the story. They’re never wrong about this sort of thing, right?

Local German journalist Christian Falk is also certain of a deal going through. It will be interesting to see if Schweinsteiger shows up for Bayern’s presentation tomorrow.

A former Premier League footballer also seems to think that there’s a lot of truth to this report.
