Rhasidat Adeleke is set to switch things up next weekend, racing over 100m at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy on Sunday, 30 August as she continues to put more emphasis on the shorter sprint events.
The 42 reported that the 23-year-old Dublin athlete will face a seriously competitive line-up, with European 100m and 200m champion Amy Hunt among those entered.
Jamaican sprinters Brianna Lyston and Tia Clayton are also in the field, alongside several other athletes who have already broken the 11-second mark.
Adeleke’s best-ever 100m time is 11.13 seconds, which she recorded in June 2024 when she broke the Irish record. She will now get another chance to test herself over the distance after spending much of her career focused on the 200m and 400m.
There will be no Irish representation at Friday evening’s Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, where Amy Hunt is among the big names competing.
After that, the series moves on to Silesia, Zürich and Brussels, before the first-ever World Athletics Ultimate Championship takes place in Budapest from 11 to 13 September.
Several Irish athletes are currently in contention for places at that event. European 800m champion Mark English, 1500m bronze medallist Andrew Coscoran, Cian McPhillips and Sharlene Mawdsley are all currently inside the required rankings.
Adeleke and Sarah Healy, meanwhile, are just outside their respective quotas with three weeks remaining to secure their spots.
Adeleke is also set for another 200m outing after the Ultimate Championship, having entered the Athlos meeting in London on 18 September.
