Screw you Sepp, we’re setting up a GAA World Cup

In news that should lift the nation and maybe guarantee us some glory, the GAA are thinking of staging a World Cup of GAA.

According to today’s Irish Mail on Sunday, a number of the international county boards, swelled with the influx of migrants from Ireland, are making plans for an international tournament, to be held in Dubai either next year or 2013.

Last weekend the European Gaelic Football Championships were held in Limerick and that tournament, won by Guernsey, is seen as the template for an international event.

The GAA is growing fast in Asia, Canada and especially Australia, driven by the new arrivals escaping the mess we are in here. Add in the traditional powerhouses in New York and London and the makings of a decent event are there.

There is no indication that Ireland would be represented yet, but it would be a pity if the one World Cup we would definitely win excluded us. Maybe the club champions could represent Ireland, generating a real interest in the tournament here but some team from this island should be involved, if it goes ahead.

And we can maybe show Sepp Blatter and his boys how it should be done.
