“It means the world to me. And more importantly my friends and my family and my club.”

Limerick hurler Shane Dowling gave an inspirational post-match interview following a spectacular triumph over Galway in an All-Ireland hurling final which boasted tension right to the end.

Never one to keep it brief, 25-year-old Dowling’s passion for the game was palpable, stating that he has been waiting for this day to come for decades.

“I can’t believe it. I just can’t believe it. This is all I’ve ever wanted since I was a young fella,” a clearly emotional Dowling said.

Dowling had to make do with the role of an impact sub for most of the year – and what an impact he made on Sunday, coming on with the score of a crucial goal which helped steer the Treaty County to victory.

The crescendo from the stands as he ran on just shows how beloved a player he is and how much his importance is recognised by the team.

The Na Piarsaigh star concluded his rousing interview with a call to Limerick fans to “go absolutely mental for the next couple of weeks” following their victory – something we’re sure they’ll have no problem with.

Details of the team’s homecoming have been released online, with Beoga, The Blizzards and DJ Mark McCabe set to perform on the night.
