It’s the Bledisloe Cup match between two behemoths of the game and a decent pointer to form ahead of the World Cup in September.
Barclays Premier League, Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur, BT Sport 1, 12.45pm
It’s back lads and the first match of the brand new season looks like it could be a tasty affair. Louis van Gaal has spent heavily again this summer and will be under extra pressure to build upon last season.
Rugby Union International, Wales v Ireland, BBC Wales, 2.30pm
The build up to the World Cup begins as Joe Schmidt brings an experimental 15 to Cardiff for a game against the only team to beat them in this year’s Six Nations.
All-Ireland Football Championship 1/4 Finals, Tyrone v Monaghan, Donegal v Mayo, Sky Sports 5, 3.30pm
Last weekend’s quarter-finals were a bit one-sided, but this weekend looks like it could be epic. Two matches which are very hard to call and the throw-in for Tryone v Monagahan is at 4pm and Donegal v Mayo starts at 6pm.
Sunday
Barclays Premier League, Arsenal v West Ham, Sky Sports 1, 1.30pm
There are some who feel that this could be Arsenal’s year, especially with the acquisition of Petr Cech. They kick off their season at home to West Ham in a London derby.
All-Ireland Hurling Championship Semi-Final, Kilkenny v Waterford, RTE2, 2.45pm
The Cats are back at headquarters for yet another All-Ireland semi-final and coming up against a very good Waterford outfit. Kilkenny of course will be favourites, but there are those who think it’ll be a very tight affair.
Barclays Premier League, Stoke City v Liverpool, Sky Sports 1, 4.00pm
Liverpool kick off their new season at the place were they had a nightmarish finish to their previous season. They’ll be haunted by the 6-1 demolition they suffered, but Brendan Rodgers has made a lot of astute looking signings and it’ll be interesting to see how they get on.
