Marco Tardelli will take charge of the Irish football team for their friendly against Argentina tonight, after it was revealed that Giovanni Trapattoni will remain in hospital.

Marco Tardelli will take charge of the Irish football team for their friendly against Argentina tonight, after it was revealed that Giovanni Trapattoni will remain in hospital.

Trapattoni’s recovery from a bout of food poisoning is slightly behind expectations and the 71-year old will remain in the Mater Hospital to undergo further tests.

A statement released by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) this morning read:

“The Football Association of Ireland can today (August 11) confirm that Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni’s condition remains stable in the Mater Hospital.

“His progress overnight has been slightly behind expectations and after being seen by his consultant, he will undergo further investigations, including x-rays this morning. A further update on Giovanni Trapattoni’s progress will be made this afternoon.

“Assistant manager, Marco Tardelli will take charge of the Republic of Ireland squad for tonight’s match against Argentina.”
