The birthplace of the GAA has just changed hands…

Hayes Hotel in Thurles, Tipperary, where the GAA was founded all those years ago, has been sold at an auction in Dublin.

The identity of the buyer is as yet unknown but whoever has purchased the famous hotel has nabbed themselves a crucial piece of Irish sporting history.

On 1 November 1884, Michael Cusack and company gathered in the billiard room of the hotel and founded the greatest sporting institution in the history of the world, the GAA.

Tipperary GAA are keen to find out the identity of the buyer so keep an eye on their Twitter page for updates…

The only question remaining is whether or not their amazing carvery lunches will still be on the go because JOE knows they do a mean (in a good way) roast beef on a Sunday afternoon…
