J-League

Big changes in the J-League after the weekend, the most significant one being the displacement of long-time leaders, Ciaran Tracey’s Bacuna Mata-ta, at the top of the table. Allan Johnson’s Comeback Kids took over number one spot and took it over in some style too, racing into a 20-point lead after a 67-point haul this week. Pairic Sheehan’s Klippity Kloppity very nearly stole second place but now trail Ciaran’s charges by a mere six points, with Tremendous Tom Mulholland’s The Turbo Terrific a decent stretch back in fourth place. Propping up the top five, meanwhile, is Crabby Joe’s Spleef Queens, a little over 50 points off the lead.

Gameweek 28

This one kind of crept up on us didn’t it? For some reason, midweek games tend to deliver a lot of goals and a lot of Fantasy Football points, so Gameweek 28 should be a good one. On a six-game winning streak, Spurs are the form side in the division and it’s a testament to the quality of their squad that they’ve been getting over the line despite muted contributions from star men Harry Kane and Dele Alli in recent games. West Ham away is a tough test of their mettle tomorrow and speaking of mettle, Arsenal could really do with showing some after the manner of their defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. United, meanwhile, have hit a bit of form and will fancy their chances at home against a Watford side that have lost three of their last four games on the road. Leicester City struggled for long periods against Norwich at the weekend and they might find West Brom a similarly tough nut to crack, while Liverpool will look to instantly avenge their Capital One Cup Final defeat when they face Manchester City at Anfield.

Safe bet: Cesc Fabregas (£8.4 million). The Spaniard has enjoyed a return to form of late and it’s about time too, because he’s been a shadow of himself for most of the season. Chelsea tend to play well when Fabregas does and he’s notched a goal, an assist and 15 points in his last two outings. Dark horse: Marcus Rashford (£4.6 million). Anthony Martial should be fit to return from injury but can Louis Van Gaal really ignore the claims of his young superstar after four goals in two games? Captain’s choice: Mesut Ozil (£9.9 million). Arsenal have flattered to deceive so often that it’s hard to trust them, but the German hasn’t let his level drop like his teammates and has returned two goals, two assists and 29 points in his last three games.

Potential to use chips

Five managers benefitted from blind luck excellent foresight to select Marcus Rashford as their triple captain on Sunday, but we wouldn’t recommend doing likewise this time around. With time running out and our earlier forecast of loads of goals, however, we wouldn’t argue with anyone who opts to use the all-out attack or bench boost options this week.
