There was no room for Roy Keane in Sky Sports’ all-time Premier League XI

Anyone brave enough to tell Roy the news?

Picking a team of 11 players from an era that spans over 20 years is a tough task but it’s also a pretty entertaining exercise that you’ve probably tried out with your football-supporting mates at some stage.

Last night, Soccer Saturday regulars Matt Le Tissier, Paul Merson, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas sat down to pick the best ever Premier League XI and as you’d expect, their selection prompted much debate under the #ultimateone2eleven hashtag on Twitter.

Arguably the most controversial decision – and we’re not just saying this from an Irish perspective – was the omission of Roy Keane in central midfield, although the absence of the likes of Alan Shearer, Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Frank Lampard were also the cause of much debate.

We still can’t believe Emile Heskey didn’t make the cut.

Sky Sports’ #ultimateone2eleven XI (4-4-2):

Peter Schmeichel (Manchester United)

Gary Neville (Manchester United)

Tony Adams (Arsenal)

John Terry (Chelsea)

Ashley Cole (Arsenal and Chelsea)

Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Patrick Vieira (Arsenal)

Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)

Thierry Henry (Arsenal)

Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal)
