There’s a new documentary about Katie Taylor being released and it sounds excellent

Paul Moore

The best of the best.

Following Katie Taylor’s superb achievement of winning the IBF World Title win over the weekend, there’s even better news for fans of the Bray boxer because her story is coming to the big screen.

After her most recent win, Taylor is now one of only seven professional women boxers to hold unified titles across the different weight divisions in the sport.

This being said, the last few years haven’t been easy for the Olympic gold medalist and in Katie Taylor: The Comeback, fans are going to get an in-depth look at Taylor’s life, inside and outside of the ring.

The film which is directed by Ross Whitaker (Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story) intimately follows Taylor as she attempts to rebuild her career after a year of turmoil that threatened to derail her seemingly unstoppable momentum.

After the Rio Olympics, many people started to write her off but Taylor decided to start again, and the notoriously private champion agreed to let a small crew document her attempt to rescale the heights.

this being said, there’s no stopping Taylor because she’s a phenomenon.

After all, she has won all of the following; six amateur European championships, five world amateur championships and most famously, an Olympic Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The documentary will unravel the deeply personal reasons behind this career low after the Rio Olympics and it shows Taylor’s grit and determination to start over as a professional.

After deciding to go pro, Taylor won her first world title within a year and she added the IBF title to her WBA crown on Saturday night.

Speaking about working with Katie Taylor and the film’s release, director Ross Whitaker said “It’s been a privilege to follow so closely the remarkable and fascinating quest that Katie has taken on and it’s priceless to be able to bring the audience so close to Katie. Katie might be shy and private, but she has that presence that draws the camera and the audience to her. We’re delighted to be working with Wildcard Distribution who have an impressive record of finding audiences with documentaries, notably with their ground-breaking success on Bobby Sands recently. They have the agility and innovative approach to help us to bring this film to the wide audience that it deserves.

The documentary is produced by Ross Whitaker and Aideen O’Sullivan (When Ali Came To Ireland) for True Films and Venom with Andrew Freedman (His & Hers, Mom and Me) as Executive Producer with funding from the Irish Film Board / Bord Scannáin na hÉireann, RTÉ, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and Wildcard Distribution.

Katie Taylor: The Comeback is due to be released in Irish cinemas this summer.
