Twitter reacts to a shaky first-half against Georgia

Carl Kinsella

Ireland seemed to be continuing their impressive run through Group D…

An early headed goal from Shane Duffy put Ireland into the lead on three minutes after an expertly delivered free kick from Cyrus Christie left the Georgian keeper in no-man’s land.

James McClea soon spurned a glorious chance to double Ireland’s lead when he nodded wide after a pinpoint cross from Jon Walters.

Georgia only grew in strength from that moment on and didn’t struggle to put the ball into the Irish box. It had been coming when some neat passing play carved through a hapless Irish defence and allowed Qazaishvili to prod the ball past Darren Randolph to make it 1-1.

The home side were in the ascendancy then, with Ireland unable to get their feet on the ball. Ireland will certainly need to do more in the second-half to come away with three points.

Here’s how Irish fans reacted on Twitter:

Not the best. Let’s hope for better in the next 45.
