No one ever suspects the little guy…

JOE reader Daniel Smith recently got in touch with this brilliant video from Brazil that features the amateur American football team, Vila Velha Tritões, scoring on a trick play that you’d expect to see in the NFL or college leagues.

Speaking to JOE, Daniel said: “It was in the national quarter-finals between the Vila Velha Tritões and the Botafogo Reptiles. Vila Velha is the team that scored [in the video]. Lucas “Flash” Moreira is the kick returner.

“As far as I know, this was the opening kickoff, but the Tritões ended up losing 28-33.

“The head coach of the team is Dan Levy, from Louisiana, who started his coaching career with the University of Limerick Vikings in Ireland.

“His assistant head coach and offensive line coach, is Eoin O’Sullivan from Meath, who started as a player with the UL Vikings, and was a coach with the Drogheda Lightning before leaving for Brazil earlier this year.”

It’s an incredible play from Moreira and pretty cool backstory too with a few nice Irish connections thrown in for good measure. What’s not to like?

Here’s a look at the recent hidden ball play from Indiana State University that the Tritões used as inspiration for this particular play.

Massive thanks to Daniel Smith for getting in touch with us…
