It’s pretty safe to say that February 10, 2013 was a pretty eventful day in the life of Brian O’Driscoll, as he told the nation during an appearance on the Late Show last night.

The great man proved en entertaining interviewee as part of a stellar cast on the Late last night and although Ryan Tubridy could arguably have done a better job with some of his questions, O’Driscoll managed to tell a few entertaining tales.

The revelation that he brought his gumshield along (in his suit pocket) to the final Lions test just in case anything happened to Jamie Roberts in the warm-up stood out, as did his admission that he presented Warren Gatland with a Christmas card on a recent Lions get-together at Downing Street in an attempt to break the ice having previously said in an interview that Gatland wasn’t on his Christmas card list.

O’Driscoll also recounted the day that his baby daughter Sadie was born, which was also the day that Ireland lost 12-6 to England in the Six Nations at the Aviva Stadium, a game in which BOD freely admits to not remembering what happened in the opening 50 minutes (not an awful lot if memory serves us correctly).

In case you missed it, you can relive O’Driscoll’s telling of the story in the video above; we particularly enjoyed his exchange with wife Amy when he realised that he needed to heading off if he wanted to make it to the Aviva in time for kick-off.
