When Eamon Dunphy makes a prediction, it’s usually not a half-hearted one and his forecast about what would happen to Dortmund in the second half tonight went spectacularly wrong.

It’s easy for us to laugh now after Borussia Dortmund and Robert Lewandowski in particular turned in a masterclass to put Real to the sword and established what could yet be an unassailable 4-1 lead; hindsight is 20/20 vision and all that.

But having dominated proceedings in the first half before Cristiano Ronaldo’s equaliser, it was fairly plain to see that the German outfit were in the mood and were going to take some stopping after the break.

Plain for everyone except Eamon Dunphy to see that is. Here’s what he had to say about Dortmund’s second-half prospects…

In fairness to Dunphy, he wasn’t slow to admit he was wrong afterwards, although it was a surprise to hear that himself and the rest of the RTE lads go on to say that they are not exactly convinced that Dortmund had what it takes to go on and win the competition.

Let’s see if that prediction goes as well as the last one Eamo…
