We know it’s not serious, but just imagine…
England seem to be living in somewhat of a vicious circle when it comes to their national side.
Talk at the start of of the cycle is of a young squad, one that won’t challenge for honours this time round and will instead focus on building for the future.
It starts off in qualifying with a few wins over Moldova, Macedonia and the Faroe Islands, a swift qualification for a major tournament is secured.
The press begins to talk up their chances during the Premier League season and the public rally behind them, England are definitely going to win *insert any tournament here* according to the public.
They arrive at the tournament, string together a series of inept performances culminating with a limp exit and accompanying public outcry.
Then the cycle starts all over again.
Perhaps Eric Cantona is the man to change it all…
