Tremendous respect to Jason McAteer for speaking out about his mental health.
The former Republic of Ireland midfielder was on The Late Late Show on Friday night, where he spoke evocatively about his bouts of depression and feeling suicidal at the end of his playing career.
"You've got to admit that you're a mess," he said after telling his story to Ryan Tubridy. "Otherwise it's not going to work."
One of the most articulate and open former footballers you'll ever come across, McAteer says he is now in a great place.
