Has there ever been a squeakier voice in Irish sport?
Tales of Rory McIlroy’s ridiculous ability when he was a young fella have been told often at this stage; from a very early age, the current World Number One was destined for great things.
Arguably the most emphatic demonstration of the player he was going to and has become was on that bastion of high-quality youth sports broadcasting during the 1990s, Rapid, when he took on Ryder Cup winner Philip Walton and beat him.
The momentous clash was recalled on the last episode of the latest series of Second Captains Live last week, when viewers were reminded of McIlroy’s youthful prowess, Jason Sherlock’s broadcasting ability and Philip’s priceless advice to the child prodigy.
Well worth another look if you’ve seen it already; if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat.
