They say there’s a recession in Ireland at the moment but you wouldn’t have thought it to look at the punter at the Galway Races who was caught wiping his face with a €50 note on live TV.

Recession or no recession, the Galway Races will always prove a popular draw with race-goers, who will always be able to cobble together a few quid to make the trip to Ballybrit and a have a few flutters while they’re at it.

Having a bet is one thing, but this particular punter at the races today is obviously a very wealthy man or he had a few big wins this week because he was able to wipe his wet face with a €50 note and was caught on camera doing so while Barry Orr of Betfair was being interviewed live on RTE.

In fairness to your man in question, he looks as if he could have had a hankie wrapped up in the €50 note, but let’s hope he doesn’t repeat the process whenever he takes a trip to the jacks a little later on.

Hat-tip to the eagle-eyed Paul Tobin for sending this one into us
