After a truly odd ‘dance-off’ between Sharapova and an older gentleman in the audience, Wozniacki jokingly complained that she wanted a hot guy to dance with. As the crowd looked around, the camera zoned in on Rory McIlroy, gleefully holding his hands up to head down to the court.
What happened next was not a dance-off but rather an impromptu McIlroy vs Sharapova tennis battle, with the golfer technically winning a point over the Russian before taking his leave and signing an autograph for a grateful fan.
After the match, a victorious Sharapova was asked by an ESPN interviewer how she felt having to take on the combined might of Wozniacki and McIlroy, before sarcastically replying: “I know, he won more points than Caroline did!”
