Video: The Conor McGregor interview from 2008 that featured in his brilliant documentary last night

The hair is different, the clothes are different and there are a few spots on his face, but there’s no mistaking that Conor McGregor’s personality was exactly the same in 2008 as it is today.

The hair is different, the clothes are different and there are a few spots on his face, but there’s no mistaking that Conor McGregor’s personality was exactly the same in 2008 as it is today.

McGregor was the subject of a fantastic documentary on RTE Two last night, ‘The Notorious : Reality Bites’ which followed his progress from when he shot to overnight fame after his spectacular UFC debut through to his next fight and American debut in August 2013, when he sustained the serious knee injury from which he is still recuperating today.

The documentary also featured snippets from a 2008 interview McGregor conducted with Dean Kelly, in which he outlines his dream to make it to the top, or, in his words ‘to be world lightweight champion in the UFC, have more money than I know what to do with and have a great life for my kids, my grandkids and everyone in my life who came up with me’.

Knowing what he’s achieved since, it’s fascinating to look back and see the drive, the ambition and confidence to achieve his dreams that McGregor possessed only a couple of years after taking up MMA and should serve as an inspiration to the many seeking to follow in his footsteps.
