Two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo brought his total to 16 in this season’s Champions League, a new record, breaking the previous record of 14 belonging to Lionel Messi. His first goal last night was the record-breaker and he made sure everyone knew it was his fifteenth.

As a footnote, Ronaldo has now scored 250 goals in 243 games for Real Madrid and that £80m they paid for him looks an absolute steal. Like him or not, he is a phenomenon.
