“We’ve discovered the world likes the way we do things. And there’s nothing in the world we can’t achieve.”
Today was a big day in Ireland’s campaign to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup as the IRFU became the first organisation to launch their bid to World Rugby at the Aviva Stadium.
As well as some of the major details – logistics, stadia, tourism and financial benefits etc. – the IRFU debuted a campaign video showcasing all that’s good about Ireland as a host venue and they rolled out a pretty big gun to help hammer home the point.
Arguably nobody in the world apart from Morgan Freeman has a more distinctive voice than Liam Neeson and it was his gravelly and inspirational tones that provided the backing track to the Ireland 2023 campaign video launched at the Aviva Stadium today.
U2, Bob Geldof and Barack Obama are amongst the recognisable faces to feature in a video that celebrates Ireland’s achievements in a global context and helps paint a picture of the magnificent event that could take place here in seven years if World Rugby deem us worthy.

The decision on the host nation won’t be taken until November of next year, but this is a pretty good starting point.
