Pure passion, emotion and joy.
There’s going to be plenty of Irish interest in the boxing ring this summer after Athy’s own David Oliver Joyce achieved his Olympic dream following a superb win against Turkey’s Volkan Gokcek at the European Championships.
Joyce became the sixth Irish boxer to qualify for this summer’s Olympic Games after a stunning win against a younger fighter that had the full support of his own home crowd.
After a battling encounter, Joyce took the fight via a split decision and will now join Michael Conlan, Paddy Barnes, Joe Ward, Steven Donnelly and Brendan Irvine on Ireland’s Olympic boxing team.
Having dubiously miss out on a place at the Bejing and London Olympics, take a look at what this means to him. Superb.

There could be even further good news with Michael O’Reilly, Darren O’Neill and Katie Taylor still having the chance to qualify for Rio.
