Hate all your friends? Then this is the app for you
Plenty of us have tons of friends on Facebook or Bebo (that's right we've still got our Bebo) that we'd rather not meet on the street if we could avoid it. No one really enjoys the conversation that goes "ahhhhhh yeahhhhh how are you... How's the job?... Still got those shoes yeah?... Oh we'll definitely have a drink, big time, yeah yeah yeah". You know the one we're on about.
Well now we may no longer need to worry about that, as a new app called Cloak claims to be the social network for the anti-social...or something. Basically it will use data from Foursquare and Instagram and see where your friends are, to let you know on a handy map so that you can go out of their way and not run in to them. Clearly, this will be of great use for avoiding people you've had a disastrous relationship with, or stalking people that you've had a disastrous relationship with.
The man behind this particular venture is former Buzzfeed creative director Chris Baker, according to
Mashable.com, who doesn't seem to be too social at all, as his last venture was an extension for Chrome that blocked certain people from your Facebook Newsfeed. For now however, it won't use Facebook info to find your friends, and use of Twitter may be a good way off thanks to the fact that its location data is not used by most tweeters.
In a day and age where social networks are all the rage, perhaps we are finally turning our minds to the words of Aristotle. Although he stated that man is by nature a social animal he also added that someone who is "unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human".
