Bebo, the greatest social network of all time, is returning to save us

Wayne Farry

The return of the king.

It’s hard to believe it now, but there was a time when social networks were just that: a place to speak to your friends, exchange photographs and give music recommendations.

It was a simpler time, when the biggest thing you had to worry about was questionable fashion choices and bad haircuts, and not the downfall of modern society as a result of your parents’ brains being irreversibly pickled by fake news.

Before QAnon, before the use of Minions memes calling for authoritarian action, we had a little social network called Bebo, and guess what? It’s coming back.

Popular in the early to mid-2000s, Bebo went offline in 2013, before a brief return in 2014 and then going AWOL again.

Currently in private beta, Bebo is slated to return next month, giving us all the opportunity to enjoy some time in an online space that isn’t just noise being screamed at us, non-stop, 24 hours a day.

There is one sad note though, because, according to the official Bebo website, all photos and data were lost a long, long time ago.

If nothing else, it’s an excuse to get all your shite old clothes out of the wardrobe, give yourself a crap haircut, and finally find that other half you failed to get first time around.
