JOE

Storied Italian fashion house GUCCI has teamed up with superstar DJ Mark Ronson for their first iPhone app, and we felt the collaboration merits a closer look. Fusing fashion, music, and the GUCCI lifestyle into a single app, GUCCI’s Apple device effort allows users to “Experience the world of GUCCI”. Bold words, but absolutely correct.

In addition to offering regularly-updated information on GUCCI projects, collections and collaborations, the app provides behind-the-scenes peeks at Creative Director Frida Giannini’s latest works, allowing images to be posted directly from the app to your own Facebook profile, or via email to friends.

However the main attraction of the GUCCI effort is their “GUCCI Beats” feature, produced in collaboration with award-winning producer Mark Ronson (producer of Amy Winehouse – Back to Black, Nas – Untitled, among many others). Allowing you to create your own music mix, the GUCCI Beats feature contains loops, beats, drums and vocals provided by Ronson, with the ability to play back and scratch your creation in the app’s turntable. Once you’re satisfied with your mix, you can upload it to your Facebook page too.

In addition, GUCCI’s app includes all store locations (your phone’s on-board GPS will guide you to them), along with Gianni himself’s favourite clubs, hotels and restaurants from 20 cities around the globe. So what’s the catch? No catch at all – in fact the GUCCI app is available now, and completely free. We think there are not enough fashion-related apps for Apple’s device, and GUCCI’s attempt without doubt sets down a marker for all would-be rivals to challenge. Let’s hope they too can step up their game, as fashion-conscious Apple users have been left in the dark for far too long.
