It’s been a strange few weeks for the lads in charge at Microsoft, and it doesn’t look to be getting any easier as the head of Xbox leaves
There were some fairly big mistakes made by Microsoft at their event at the E3 conference in the battle between the two major consoles, and their job might be made a bit more difficult with the news that Don Mattrick, the face of their campaign and the head of their entertainment division, is headed off to take a job at Zynga.
Neither Xbox nor Mattrick have confirmed the news yet, but the lads at VG247 and AllThingsD think that it’s more or less a done deal.
Zynga, who made Farmville (yeah, remember that) haven’t had the best time either after going public and are looking to revive their business a bit, hoping that Mattrick is the man for the job.
He received a decent bit of criticism after they shot themselves in the foot at E3 with regard to their policy on second hand games, the need to connect to the internet every day and the pricing, so this might be Mattrick jumping ship before being pushed because of all the problems related to the Xbox One.
Him leaving Xbox would be a blow for them though, as they continue down the road to the launch later this year, but with all the bad press they got after E3, they may well be able to turn this one around into a positive “breath of fresh air” type of thing for whoever follows him.
