New Facebook feature aims to reduce the amount of bullsh*t on your News Feed

Facebook is cracking down on hoaxes

Oisin Collins

You’re about to see fewer hoaxes on Facebook…

Apparently, a lot of people who use the social media site want to see “fewer stories that are hoaxes, or misleading news”.

So Facebook have decided to update the News Feed with a new feature that aims to reduce the amount of fake news stories that pop up whenever you log in.

Speaking about the move, Facebook said: “[The] update to News Feed reduces the distribution of posts that people have reported as hoaxes and adds an annotation to posts that have received many of these types of reports to warn others on Facebook.”

But what happens if your d*ck of a next door neighbour starts tagging all your completely valid cat news stories as a ‘hoaxes’? Will they be deleted?

The answer, quite simply, is no…

From Facebook: “We are not removing stories people report as false and we are not reviewing content and making a determination on its accuracy.

“We’ve found from testing that people tend not to report satirical content intended to be humorous, or content that is clearly labelled as satire. This type of content should not be affected by this update.”

Here’s a look at the picture example that Facebook provided…
