Needless to say, one in six people in Ireland won’t be reading this.

According to a new report released by the European Commission, roughly one in six people in Ireland (16 per cent) have never used the internet. Not. Even. Once…

The figures revealed that there has been a huge increase in internet use here in Ireland since 2006. Back then, it was reported that 42 per cent of the population had never used the internet.

As for everyday usage, the European Commission report reveals that back in 2006 only a quarter of the population (25 per cent) used the internet ‘everyday or almost everyday’.

That has increased significantly to 65 per cent of the population in 2014, which is in line with the European average.

So there are more Irish people using the web now then ever before, but what are they searching for? According to Google, the top three most searched for stories of 2014 in Ireland were ‘World Cup’, ‘Garth Brooks’ and ‘Celebrity photo hack’.
