The emojis are designed to better represent women in the workplace.

A number of Google employees have proposed the introduction of a new series of emojis designed to promote gender equality and to better represent women in the workplace.

The proposal, which was spearheaded by four Google employees, aims to add at least 13 new emojis to the selection of emojis already available, emojis which are designed to “highlight the diversity of women’s careers”.

The proposal was presented on Tuesday to the Unicode Consortium, the organisation that oversees the creation of new emojis, in the hope that they would become standardised by the end of this year.

“No matter where you look, women are gaining visibility and recognition as never before,” the Google employees wrote in their proposal.

“Isn’t it time that emoji also reflect the reality that women play a key role in every walk of life and in every profession?”

Hear, hear.
