PlayStation are releasing a new version of an old console and now we know what we want for Christmas

Rory Cashin

Smartly, the new (old) console is released here in December.

While we’re always looking forward to the next big game and console, retro gaming is also a HUGE industry in its own right at the moment.

Between updated versions of classics (this new take of Theme Hospital is already eating away all of our free time), to entire collections getting re-released (like all of these), people love replaying old games.

Well, the next big step in retro gaming is on the way, as Sony will be re-releasing their very first console, and just in time for Christmas!

The PlayStation Classic is set for release here from Monday 3 December and is confirmed to be priced at a cent short of €100.

The console will come pre-loaded with 20 classic, “genre-defining” games, and while the full list has not yet been released, five that we do definitely know of so far are Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Jumping Flash, Wild Arms, and Ridge Racer Type 4.

Nearly 25 years later (yep, it has been that long!), they’ve remade the console A LOT smaller and it will come with all of the necessary paraphernalia to make sure it works on your big, new TV.

Full details on the release can be found here, which will be updated with more of the list of games.
