Rockstar Games confirm Read Dead Redemption 2 is officially happening

Rich Cooper

They’ve teased and taunted us, but at last we know the truth: a sequel to Red Dead Redemption is coming our way.

Following a set of cryptic (but not that cryptic) tweets from Rockstar Games, the studio that brought us Grand Theft Auto tweeted confirmation of the worst-kept secret in town: Red Dead Redemption 2 is on its way.

We don’t know much about it, but the fact that a sequel to a true classic is actually happening is knowledge enough for now. What we do know is that it’s coming in Autumn (or Fall if you will insist on Americanisms) 2017, and that a trailer will drop on Thursday, October 20 at 15:00 GMT.

The Rockstar website sheds a little more light on what we can expect from the sure-to-be smash of 2017:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

That’s about all we know for now, but recently Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two appeared to register the domain reddeadonline.com (though the link currently leads nowhere), suggesting that we’ll be getting an online multiplayer function.

Considering that most major games have online multiplayer these days, it’s hardly surprising. What it is, however, is unbelievably exciting. Just one more reason to end this shitheap of a year and get straight into 2017.
