The way we use Twitter is about to change for the better

Carl Kinsella

Twitter’s famous 140 character limit is one of the best and worst things about it.

On one hand, it allows for the distribution of information in a very digestible form. On the other hand, it can be hard communicate certain sentiments in 140 characters or less.

When the idea of expanding the character limit to 10,000 earlier on this year, Twitter users were quick to rebuke the social media giant for such an extreme change.

Nevertheless, Twitter still intend to expand the character limit somewhat.

Twitter are about to make it a bit easier for users to get their point across by no longer counting links and photos as part of the 140 characters.

Links currently reduce the character limit by 23 characters, while photos take up 24 characters. All in all, it looks like a handy change that will allow users a bit more breathing space to communicate.

According to Bloomberg, the change is expected to be implemented within the next two weeks.
