These are the most used emojis on the internet

Because sometimes, words aren’t enough…

There’s no doubting the popularity of emojis when you consider the emoji face with tears of joy was Oxford Dictionary’s 2015 word of the year.

It seems that they’re equally popular on Twitter as well according to research conducted by marketing intelligence company Affinio’s courtesy of Digiday.

They studied emoji use on Twitter in the US over the period from November to December this year and compiled the results.

It turns out, unsurprisingly, that the tears of joy emoji is by far the most popular emoji among Twitter users, being used over 919,000 times during the month.

In second spot, but a distant second at that, was the smiling face with heart-shaped eyes and in third was the crying loudly face.

The results of the research are said to be reasonably accurate year round with seasonal emojis, such as Christmas and halloween, influencing emoji use online periodically.
