Twitter is making a very strange change to its platform

Twitter users are used to change.

In the last year alone, the social media giant made a major change when it decided to change its unique selling point of a 140-character limit by increasing it to 280.

Now, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced another very strange change to the platform.

These days, almost all major social media is based around “Liking” posts — Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn — but Twitter is about to remove that option. Right now, Twitter users can either retweet or “like” a post that they approve of, but Twitter will no longer be allowing users to like posts.

It has been reported that at an in-house event last week, Dorsey announced that he was “not a fan of the heart-shaped button”. The heart-shaped button replaced the star-button users used to “Favourite” tweets until 2015.

Dorsey has said that the purpose of removing the like function is to “improve debate” on the site.
