Twitter wants to know your birthday for a very specific reason

It's not to send you a present

JOE

Twitter is making changes.

Twitter now gives you the option of sharing your birthday with your followers, but getting an array of lovely birthday greetings like Facebook is not the main reason for the change.

It’s all about the adds.

Giving your date of birth will help filter adds for a more age appropriate viewership. on your Twitter feed.

Twitter recently introduced tailored projection for brands last week which allowed specific companies and products to choose which users they want to their ads to appear to.

Giving your date of birth will make it easier for Twitter to group people together while also making it more convenient for companies that are looking to target a certain demographic.

Of course there are some interesting benefits from letting Twitter know your name day. You could be in for an array of birthday messages similar to Facebook and Twitter might even throw you a little cyber party with some lovely animated balloons.

I might prefer some cake though.
