Daft Punk fans should recognise Sony’s homage to the French dance duo straight away, as the video replicates their own ‘unboxing video’ for their latest album Random Access Memories, which hit the net earlier this year.

The video kicks off in a strange retro-looking server room and after we see the four PlayStation symbols flash across the screen a man wearing brown leather gloves gets down to the business of unboxing.

He takes out every piece of equipment inside the PlayStation 4 box, which includes, a network voucher, quick start guide, DualShock 4 controller, HDMI cable, power cord, USB cable, mono headset and, finally, the 500GB PS4 itself.

Finally, the bloke in question, who happens to be Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, utters the official PS4 tagline, ‘Greatness Awaits’.

So why did Sony decide to pay homage to Daft Punk, of all people, for the unboxing of the new PS4? Well, Daft Punk did sign to Sony’s subsidiary music label Columbia Records earlier in the year, so we’re guessing it has a lot to do with that.

Here’s a look at the original Daft Punk unboxing of Random Access Memories
