Video: The Facebook year in review is a fantastic way to look back at 2014 (and includes a young Armagh man)

Remember when you couldn’t turn your head without seeing an ice-bucket challenge?

Remember when you couldn’t turn your head without seeing an ice-bucket challenge?

That’s right, it’s probably been a while since you’ve seen one, but ice-bucket challenges were ridiculously popular in 2014 and considering that most of them were visible on Facebook, it’s not surprising that they feature prominently in the Facebook review of the year just gone.

The annual review is something that Facebook have been doing and doing well for years and this one’s version is no different.

There’s nostalgic reflections on events like the 2014 World Cup, worldwide elections, the Ebola virus and tributes to figures who passed away this year, such as Robin Williams, Philip Seymour-Hoffman, Joan Rivers and Maya Angelou.

From an Irish perspective, it’s also great to see the briefest of glimpses of Jay Beatty, the young Celtic fan with Down’s Syndrome from Armagh, who became friendly with Georgios Samaras to such an extent that Georgios even arranged for him to go and watch him at the World Cup.

Great job Facebook; this one certainly gets the thumbs up from us.
