Cisco Systems ended their flip line of cheap video cameras last month but their apparent failure to catch on with consumers hasn’t deterred Sony from jumping in with their own mini camera for the blogging crowd.

Typically, Sony has eschewed a cheap and disposable build and gone instead with something more premium with their Bloggie 3D which, as you might expect from the name, comes equipped with two lenses for a third dimension of video goodness.

Users of Nintendo’s 3DS already know what 3D photography is like and while the resolution on the handheld left a lot to be desired, a couple of shots in the right lighting were reasonably impressive. The Bloggie in contrast is capable of a decent 5-mexapixels and can shoot images and videos in 2D as well as fancy 3D.

The device has a healthy chunk of on-board memory with 8GB and Sony claims that you should get about four hours of 3D footage and a bit more for regular video. Your Cameron bothering masterpieces can be viewed in a couple of different ways with the first via a HDMI cable to a 3DTV if you are fortunate enough to own one.

The second way to view your mini-epics is the Blogger’s other headline feature; the 2.4-inch glasses-free 3D screen. Just like the 3DS you can instantly view your footage in real 3D without the need for a fancy TV or glasses.

Shell out €190 and be one of the cool kids with a Sony Bloggie 3D

As its name might suggest, the Bloggie is aimed at the internet user with videos encoded in YouTube and Facebook-friendly formats. Aspect ratios and connecting the camera to a computer is a doddle thanks to the foldout USB connector. The Bloggie also come with built-in editing software and should be perfect for anyone who likes to do a little post-production on the move.

As ever with Sony, such cutting edge features do not come cheap with the camera currently retailing in the US for an eye-watering $250, a price we were disappointed with but sadly in no way surprised.

The Sony Bloggie 3D is scheduled to hit our shores in the next six weeks and as yet, the good folk at Sony haven’t spilt the beans on an Irish price. However, the Bloggie HD Touch is available on these shores for around €190 for those who don’t care for 3D.
