Warning hand sanitiser product sale

“We will take appropriate action to protect consumers.”

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has officially issued a warning to the public in relation to the website WhataDeal.ie, which currently lists a range of hand sanitisers for sale on its home page.

The CCPC has voiced “concerns” regarding the information being provided to customers on the website and is closely monitoring related activities.

“We encourage any consumer that encounters misleading practices or experiences difficulties with WhataDeal.ie or any other trader to contact us by visiting ccpc.ie so that we can advise them of their rights,” notes a statement issued on Monday, 23 March.

“While the vast majority of businesses act in good faith, in the current circumstances the CCPC has become concerned that a small minority of traders may engage in commercial practices which are damaging to consumers, particularly vulnerable consumers,” the statement continues.

The CCPC is actively monitoring websites in order to check compliance with consumer protection law. This includes commercial practices which are misleading and businesses that are failing to provide the public with their rights under the Consumer Rights Directive.

“Where we identify issues, we will take appropriate action to protect consumers,” says a CCPC spokesperson. “This warning is part of our ongoing activity in this area.”
