5 really handy Snapchat hacks you probably didn’t know about

Alan Loughnane

Some of these are very handy…

Snapchat is a pretty straightforward app, you point your camera at what you want and you take a picture, then use the text to add a probably not very witty caption.

But there are some little gems of features on the app that you may not know about, some of which will make your life a little bit easier.

Record video without holding the capture button

Switching between the front and rear cameras can result in a violent dose of shaky camera syndrome. This trick will make it easier but it’s only available on iOS.

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility

In accessibility, click on Assistive Touch.

Tap Create New Gesture. When brought to the next page, hold your finger on the screen and let the blue bar at the bottom fill up.

Save the gesture and name it. Open Snapchat and before you start recording click on the small icon. Select custom and a circle should appear on the screen. Then all you have to do is press the record icon once and it will record a video.

Change the colour of individual words and letters in your snaps

  1. Type your caption and tap the “T” icon to increase the size of your text
  2. Tap on any word or letter to highlight the text and choose a colour from the options.
  3. Repeat the process several times to create a collage of colours.

Pin an emoji on a moving target

If you record a video focusing on a moving object, you can pin an emoji on said object post-recording.

When you finish filming, tap the emoji icon at the top right of your screen and choose the one you want.

Resize the emoji to the desired size and drag it over the desired target which should be frozen at this moment.

Hold it over the object for a moment and when the video reloads, the emoji should move along with it.

Get black and white on your colour palette

For all you android users this is easy, it’s built into the app but it’s a tad bit more difficult for iOS users.

To draw in white, you press on the colour palette and drag your finger to the top left of the screen.

To draw in black, press your finger on the colour palette and drag your finger to the bottom of the screen.

Also, to find a different shade of the colour you want simply click on the palette and drag your finger across the screen.

You can also see who follows you back on Snapchat

Search one of your “friends” on Snapchat and click on their profile. If you’re able to see their snap score then that person follows you on Snapchat, if not, they’re dead to you.
