Launched in 13 countries on Friday, sales have indicated that the Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history.

With a frenzied build up to the release of the new console – a few JOEs were more than a little giddy with excitement – the Xbox One surpassed the record of Xbox 360 sales with more than one million of the new consoles sold in the opening 24 hours, a new record for Microsoft.

Fans from around the world lined up to get their hands on the new console, with special launch concerts held in New York and Los Angeles and midnight store openings and other launch events worldwide, with ‘Dead Rising 2’ and ‘Forza Motorsport 5’ being among the most popular launch titles so far.

Sony too have been pleased with the launch of the PS4 which happened a week earlier, also claiming to have sold more than one million consoles in the first day of release. The company has said it has targeted three million in sales by the end of 2013.

Could be a tricky Christmas for Santa.
